Ferry Meadows Railway

Ferry Meadows Railway was here at the start when Nene Park opened to the public in 1978, and is still offering a service to the visiting public 29 years later.

There have been some changes over the years, and there are more to come over this winter, when we open again at Easter 2008 you will find new staff operating the trains, and giving we hope a much improved service.

The track is about half a mile in length, and is on the popular narrow ten and a quarter inch gauge. (10.1/4")
Starting from Ham Lane station, you start your journey across the park past the shop, cafe and children's play area then around the edge of Coney Meadow, you can see Overton Lake off to your right, and as we travel on the track turns left and passes along a raised bank giving you a really good view of Lynch Lake with its islands of nesting birds and views across to Bluebell Woods in the distance, you are half way now on you journey to the Watersport Centre hiding in the trees ahead, as we pass through the gap in the trees you will see the newly renovated Gunwade station ahead of us, we have plans to extend the track all the way to the Watersport Centre, but that will be in the winter of 2008/9, at this point you can get off the train to explore this end of the park or if you choose, wait for the driver to turn the engine around before you make the trip back to Ham Lane station.
